Reggie Fils-Aime On The Main Challenges That Nintendo Faces In 2018

Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken about the main challenges that Nintendo will face in 2018.

Those challenges somewhat predictably cover the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS, as well as their plans to release more mobile games and their continued work with Universal Studios to create Super Nintendo World.

“First, we will be continuing to drive our Nintendo Switch business. We have a number of great games that are in development, that are going to be key for us continuing to drive that franchise,” Fils-Aime explained at Variety’s Entertainment and Technology Summit.

“What’s going to be important is as we get more and more devices out in the hands of consumers, it’s going to build an opportunity for all of our third-party business partners – for them to bring their best intellectual property to the platform. That’s going to be a key area of focus.

“Another one is going to be continuing our dedicated handheld business, Nintendo 3DS. In the mobile front, we have said that we will launch about two mobile applications a year. So that would continue.

“And certainly, with the relationship with Universal Studios, we’re learning with our partner just the long-term nature of building buildings and amusement park rides, and all of the technology that goes into it. So that’s going to be a key area of focus, helping to make sure that as that gets created it really does bring our IP to life.”
