Nintendo of America have noted that Mario Kart 8 has had a “significant impact” on Wii U hardware sales across North America, let alone worldwide.
That’s according to Reggie Fils-Aime, who shared that hardware sales quadrupled in comparison to the week before the Wii U exclusive launched. It also saw an 18 percent attachment rate with current Wii U owners over launch weekend, a remarkable increase considering that previous titles on their respective systems only achieved between two and seven percent.
“It’s one of the things I have to do with certain media, remind them, look, for us, the drive toward the holiday began a couple of weeks ago with Mario Kart 8,” Reggie discussed with Polygon, reiterating that Mario Kart 8’s momentum will continue throughout the year.
“And that’s off to a fantastic start. For us, on a global basis, and certainly here in the United States, it’s driving hardware, which is great to see.”
