Reggie Fils-Aimé Argues Against Whether Nintendo Should Stop Making Consoles

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé once again defends the company’s decision to continue making hardware in a new Deadlock episode with The Game Theorists.

He argues that Nintendo continues to play an incredibly important role in the industry, whether that be introducing games to a wider audience with Wii or how they either invented or helped control schemes become more mainstream.

He reels off the D-pad, Start and Select buttons, portable gaming, shoulder buttons, saving, thumbsticks, rumble, wireless controllers, touchscreen gaming, motion controls, glasses-free 3d, and augmented reality as ways that they have looked to innovate, and that will only continue with Nintendo Switch.

All of that comes together in the Joy-Con controllers, which promise to deliver new experiences like nothing that you’ve played before. He touches on how Nintendo are able to create a positive environment for players by creating their own hardware, mentioning the Parental Control app that will become available. He’s buoyant on early support from third-party partners, and believes that everyone will have plenty of games to enjoy on the platform.

Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on Friday 3rd March, priced at £279.99 ($299.99).
