Clear River Games has confirmed a release date for R-Type Delta HD Boosted, which is in development for Nintendo Switch.
From developer IREM Software Engineering, this brings the legendary shoot ’em up to modern consoles – now “remastered, reloaded and razor-sharp.”
It is 2163. The badly damaged R-9A Arrowhead has returned to Earth after defeating the Bydo Empire, returning to the battle cruiser Croque Monsieur for repairs. Peace doesn’t last for long, though.
One year later, deadly objects start to fall from the sky. Control is lost over the deadly Moritz-G orbiting annihilation platform, leading to a city being destroyed. The platform’s advanced defence systems make it almost impossible to approach, but the military responds by deploying the R9all Delta – a prototype ship that is the last hope for humanity.
First released in 1998, R-Type Delta returns 27 years later with updated HD visuals and modern quality of life features. With minimalist late-’90s storytelling and sharp polygon graphics, you can pilot three formidable ships that are each armed with deadly Delta Attacks and Force mechanics.
R-Type Delta HD Boosted will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 20 November 2025.
