GungHo Online Entertainment’s Puzzle & Dragons may have now been downloaded more than 41 million times worldwide, but Nintendo are keen to let players take their own Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition for a spin ahead of launch.

This week has seen a playable demo for the match-three puzzler become available on the Nintendo eShop, which will allow you to play through two stages from Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. This will let you create teams with familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters, with one set-up seeing Boo Mario lead Cheep Cheep and Fire Piranha Plant in battle – with Boo Luigi providing back-up.

Success relies on you matching three or more elemental Orbs of the same type, with characters in your team matching the element then being able to deal damage. With certain elements weak to one another, it strategises your team creation as well as the Orbs that you prioritise eliminating – with combo chains heightening the strength of your attack.

Your team all have skills to help you in battle whether that be dealing extra damage, altering the elemental properties of Orbs, while your chosen Leader and Helper can conjure benefits across your entire team.

Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS in Europe on May 8th, and in North America on May 22nd.
