Cross-platform play will soon beckon Nintendo fans, with Voofoo’s Pure Chess releasing next week through the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS.

This means that fans will be able to play against their friends and family regardless of whether their opponent is playing on Wii U, 3DS, iPad, iPhone, iPod and Android devices – already a clear technical accomplishment by the developer.

Created with the aid of a chess Grandmaster, Pure Chess will provide varying levels of tutorials that will allow beginners to learn the ropes, and for seasoned players to improve their skills to become a Grandmaster in their own right.

“Cross-platform play was a feature we all wanted to see in the game, but we underestimated the effort & technicalities involved with getting it right”, explained Ripstone creative director Phil Gaskell. “We think the delay has been worth it, and can’t wait for players on all different devices to begin issuing challenges”.

Pure Chess will release for Wii U and 3DS through the Nintendo eShop on March 20th, priced at £4.99 / €5.99 / $7.99.
