XSEED Games has announced that they will publish WayForward’s Shantae: Half-Genie Hero at retail on Wii U.

The belly dancing hair-whipping adventure started life on Kickstarter, where 18,558 backers had pledged $776,084 to help make it become a reality.

The stretch goals that were achieved saw an additional Risky Mode, Costume Swap, and two Bonus Chapters promised, but development has long continued despite an estimated delivery window initially eyeing October 2014.

The Californian developer has been working hard, however, sharing regular updates with their loyal backers. In an update posted on May 7th they had actually touched on requests for a physical version, confirming that, due to “the positive support from fans and press,” they had entered discussions with top tier publishers in the hope that they could arrange something.

That has now been finalised, with XSEED saying that the physical version will be a special ‘Risky Beats’ release that will come with a music selection CD that will boast 20 tracks from the game.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will launch on Wii U at retail and on the Nintendo eShop, with a release date still unspecified.
