PS4 joins Xbox One in having surpassed UK Wii U sales

Sony celebrated a suitably strong launch across the United Kingdom for the PlayStation 4 over the weekend, shifting 250,000 units in just 48 hours.

Such success saw the company soar past the 150,000 units that the Xbox One achieved, but, more regrettably, has now seen both of the new next-gen hardware already outsell the past year’s Wii U sales.

Whilst Gfk Chart-Track weren’t able to comment on specific sales figures, they have confirmed that the Wii U has now fallen into third place in the console race.

Nintendo will be looking to the acclaimed Super Mario 3D World to stimulate installed base growth, but this is now, more than ever, a call to arms that they need to shift gears in 2014.
