The Pokémon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara took to the stage during the opening ceremony at the Pokémon World Championships 2015 to share a special announcement, revealing that Pokkén Tournament will release on Wii U.

Developed in collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment, Pokkén Tournament has drawn on their expertise in producing the Tekken series. Promising to bring Pokémon to life in an entirely new way, players will have direct control over where Pokémon move during battle and the moves that they unleash to pummel their opponent into submission.

Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada added that development was progressing well, before revealing that those competing in Boston would have the chance to play the arcade version.

“Pokkén Tournament combines the best elements of a traditional fighting game with an authentic Pokémon experience,” comments The Pokémon Company International’s director of consumer marketing J.C. Smith. “Fans will be thrilled to see their favourite Pokémon battle in a whole new way.”

Pokkén Tournament will release exclusively for Wii U worldwide in Spring 2016.
