Pokémon X and Y prepares for Sky Battles and Horde Encounters

Within Nintendo’s Developer Roundtable at E3 2013 yesterday, Game Freak director Junichi Masuda has revealed new battle scenarios for Pokémon X and Y.

Masuda firstly discussed the Player Search System (PSS), a new communication feature within the Nintendo 3DS exclusives. When turned on, it will alert you to anyone playing nearby and provides the option to connect, battle, and trade wirelessly – the same concept being available through the Nintendo Network.

Your journey across the Kalos region will also introduce new battle scenarios: Horde Encounters and Sky Battles.

Horde Encounters see groups of wild Pokémon appear, with the player only able to fend for themselves with a single Pokémon. It will therefore become important to field a strong team, capable of attacking all five enemy Pokémon at once.

Then there’s Sky Battles, which take place high above ground and are only available to certain Pokémon within your party that can fly. These are designed to be visually astounding, and you can catch a glimpse below:
