The Pokémon Company International has revealed that the Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield – Brilliant Stars expansion will release at retailers around the world early next year.
This will introduce the new Pokémon VSTAR gameplay mechanic. Pokémon VSTAR evolve from Pokémon V, and each has a VSTAR Power – an Ability or attack – with an extremely powerful effect that can help sway a battle in your favour. You can only use one VSTAR Power per game, which, once used, will require that you flip over a VSTAR Marker during your battle.
While Pokémon VSTAR have high HP and high-damage attacks, they carry a greater risk to your chances of winning as you will need to give up two Prize cards when they are Knocked Out.
The Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield – Brilliant Stars expansion will include Arceus VSTAR, Charizard VSTAR, Shaymin VSTAR and Whimsicott VSTAR, as well as “a special Trainer Gallery subset of 30 cards with artwork featuring fan-favourite Trainers and Pokémon.”
The expansion will include 20 Pokémon V, 15 full-art Pokémon V, four Pokémon VMAX, 22 Trainer cards, six full-art Supporter cards and one Special Energy card.
The Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield – Brilliant Stars expansion will release at retailers worldwide on Q1 2022.
