The Pokémon Company International has confirmed a release date for the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet and Violet expansion, which takes inspiration from the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games on Nintendo Switch.
The first expansion in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Series was initially revealed at the 2022 Pokémon World Championships, and will see the return of the Pokémon ex gameplay mechanic. This can appear in each stage of Evolution and have high HP, powerful attacks and Abilities. It carries a risk though as when a Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, it gives up two Prize cards instead of one.
You can expect several card design improvements that have been implemented for the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Series. The yellow borders on Pokémon TCG cards will now be grey to match the cards released in Japan, in an effort to provide “a more seamless Pokémon TCG experience around the world while allowing the card artwork to shine even further.”
The subcategories for Trainer cards – such as Supporter, Item and Stadium – will also now appear in the top left corner to be more visible in your hands. Whereas basic Energy cards will display another Energy symbol on the bottom right corner “to make it easier to track during gameplay, and expansion symbols will be replaced by expansion codes and language codes across all cards.”
The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet expansion will release at retailers worldwide from 31st March 2023.
