Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have secured the second biggest UK launch for the brand, becoming yet another Nintendo Switch exclusive that has dominated the software chart.

GamesIndustry.biz report that the physical sales that the games have been met with over their opening weekend has resulted in the Galar region-based adventure becoming the biggest exclusive game of the year.

Pokémon Sword alone entered at No. 1, with Pokémon Shield at No. 3 and the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield: Dual Edition at No. 7.

With the two copies that the Dual Edition contains taken into consideration, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have sold 43 percent more copies compared to Pokémon Black and Pokémon White on Nintendo DS and 64.6 percent more than Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! on Nintendo Switch.

However, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon still remain the pocket monster brand’s biggest launch – Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield’s physical sales were 34.5 percent lower in comparison.

Although, the Nintendo 3DS games had arrived just as Pokémon GO became a worldwide phenomenon, and this does not include digital sales which will have a much more significant impact.

With Luigi’s Mansion 3 (No. 6), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No. 9), and Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 (No. 10), there are six Nintendo Switch exclusives in the Top 10.

It is also reported that Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 sales have grown 12 percent week-on week, whereas Minecraft for Nintendo Switch has been boosted 31 percent in the same period as well as Ring Fit Adventure – the fitness adventure’s sales being up 36 percent.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
