After becoming the “best pre-selling games in Nintendo history,” Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have broken a new record.

The worldwide excitement that has surrounded the games has meant that the initial shipment that The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo has distributed to retailers has surpassed 10 million copies – which is the largest figure in the history of Nintendo 3DS titles, and an 150 percent increase in comparison to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

It is worth noting that this number doesn’t represent a sell-through to consumers just yet, but gives an early indication as to the overwhelming demand that has surrounded the games.

At this point in time, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y remain the best-selling Nintendo 3DS games, having sold 15.64 million copies worldwide. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are the third best-selling games, having collectively sold 13.18 million copies worldwide.

We adored the Nintendo 3DS exclusives, concluding in our review: “Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon deliver the most striking evolution that the series has ever seen. This is the most ambitious that Game Freak has ever been, and the Alola region’s tropical paradise is all the better for it.

“Basked in sunshine, this is an adventure that celebrates everything that we have come to love about the series while delivering a truly innovative Pokémon experience that successfully redefines it for a new generation.”
