Pokémon Sun And Moon Become Nintendo UK’s Biggest Ever Launch

Expectations that had surrounded Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon were already high, especially after it was announced that the Nintendo 3DS exclusives had become the “best pre-selling games in Nintendo history.”

Thanks to GFK Chart-Track (via Eurogamer), we can now learn just how impressive their launch in the United Kingdom has been. On launch day alone, that saw the games outperform any title released on Nintendo 3DS, Wii, or Nintendo DS.

In perspective, that doubles the numbers achieved by 2014’s Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, and surpassed Wii Fit’s first two weeks of sales in a single day.

That success meant that Sun and Moon placed third and fourth respectively in this week’s all-format chart – or first and second in the individual formats chart.

Their main competition came from FIFA 17 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which were heavily promoted in retailer’s Black Friday efforts.

However, GFK Chart-Track were keen to highlight that it was “a spectacular launch for Nintendo,” and that if Sun and Moon’s sales were combined they would have debuted in top spot.
