Pokémon Series Sales Surpass 279 Million Copies Worldwide

The Pokémon Company has announced that the main Pokémon series has sold more than 200 million copies sold worldwide, an impressive number that has been calculated up until 29th February 2016.

That includes Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow’s recent release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service, but reaches even more dizzying heights if spin-off games are taken into consideration.

Factoring in those, which covers games and series such as Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon Rumble and the widely-adored Pokémon Snap, that sees total sales reaching over 279 million copies worldwide.

That is a remarkable achievement, and one that The Pokémon Company have often shared how humbled they have been by the brand’s success. Now celebrating 20 years since the first Pokémon games launched in Japan, that only looks set to continue with Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
