Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Trade Evolutions

Trade Evolutions are back in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, meaning that to complete your Pokédex for the Paldea region you will need to trade a handful of pocket monsters under specific conditions to make them evolve.

To trade with another player, open the in-game menu (X Button), select Poké Portal and then Link Trade from the options. You can then search for a trade partner with or without using a Link Code, whether choosing to do so locally or online.

At launch, there are just three Pokémon that we believe you will only be able to add to your Pokédex through trade evolutions – Gengar, Scizor and Slowking.

How To Evolve Haunter Into Gengar

To evolve Haunter into Gengar, you simply need to trade the Gas Pokémon with another player. Once traded it will evolve into the Shadow Pokémon in their game, at which point they can trade it back to you to help complete your Pokédex for the Paldea region.

How To Evolve Scyther Into Scizor

To evolve Scyther into Scizor, you will need to trade the Mantis Pokémon while it is holding the Metal Coat item. If you don’t already have one, you can buy the Metal Coat item from the Delibird Presents store in Levincia. Once traded, it will evolve into the Pincer Pokémon in their game for it to then be traded back to you.

How To Evolve Slowpoke Into Slowking

To evolve Slowpoke into Slowking, you will need to trade the Dopey Pokémon while it is holding the King’s Rock item. If you don’t already have one, you can buy the King’s Rock item from the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza. Once traded, it will evolve into the Royal Pokémon in their game for the other player to then trade it back to you.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
