Thanks to the Nintendo Today! app, we have been able to see Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet running on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.

We have known that the game’s free software update would see the frame rate “improved for smoother movement on Nintendo Switch 2” and its visuals “optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality.”

Now, we can see that in action and discover that they will run at 60 frames per second on the portable home console’s successor. It’s staggering to see how smoothly it runs compared to what we have all experienced before.

Having now sold 26.79 million copies to become the best-selling Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch, while their open world gameplay met with some praise, the games were heavily criticised for their poor technical and graphical performance.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be released at retailers around the world on 5 June 2025, priced at £395.99 in the United Kingdom, €469.99 across Europe, and $449.99 in the United States.
