Japan will introduce children to the funamentals of science this summer, through a Pokémon Lab-themed exhibit that is to open at the Miraikan science museum in Odaiba, Tokyo.
Organised with help from The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper, the exhibit, which will be split between three rooms, will look to recreate a Pokémon Lab and task children with imagining what it’d be like to study different Pokémon as a professor.
Anime News Network reports that the first room will see children observe Poké Balls that have been delivered to the lab and try to identify which Pokémon is inside, whereas the second is a Collection Room that will explain the different Pokémon-types and characteristics. The third room will then teach children how all of these skills can be applied in the real world, and share scientific discoveries that have already been made by children.
As can be expected, there’ll also be areas that take a look at the history of the Pokémon series and how the technology behind it has evolved. Meanwhile plans for promotions and merchandise are underway, mainly involving Researcher Pikachu who acts as the exhibit’s mascot.
The Pokémon Lab will open in Miraikan’s 1st Floor Special Exhibit Zone from July 8th, with ticket reservations available at 7-11, Ticketpia, e+, CN Play Guide, and JTB – with a Researcher Pikachu pin badge as an early reward.
