Niantic has announced that the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event has now started, seeing the Year of the Pig celebrated in the location-based game.

The event has spotlighted 12 Pokémon, meaning that Buneary, Dratini, Ekans, Electabuzz, Mankey, Mareep, Miltank, Ponyta, Poochyena, Rattata, Spoink, and Torchic will appear more frequently in the wild. And, the developer adds, you may even encounter a Shiny Spoink.

It will run until 1pm PST on 13th February 2019, and, while live, you will receive 2x Catch XP, 2x XP when evolving Pokémon, and, when you trade one of your pocket monsters, there will be an increased chance that it will become a Lucky Pokémon.

Pokémon GO is now available for iOS and Android devices worldwide.
