Pokémon Dream Radar Review

Exploring the space between dreams and reality serves as the means that Nintendo expands upon your experiences with Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.

As an assistant working for Professor Burnet, the player must aid her research studies by using a Visoscope to investigate the Interdream Zone. Whilst doing so, the Nintendo 3DS camera is employed to transform the environment around you, providing a backdrop in which you must use your light beam to shoot Dream Clouds that randomly populate the area.

This, in turn, breaks the clouds into Dream Orbs that, once blasted again, may cause kaleidoscopic Orbs to appear whose capture rewards you with either an item drop or by revealing a mystery, unidentified Pokémon. When such Orbs appear, the player must immediately track its movement with the on-screen reticule, hammering the A Button in the process.

Legendary Pokémon pose a varying challenge as well, yet the limited quantity of the critters is the game’s inevitable downfall.

The overriding benefit is that anything captured can then be transferred across to Pokémon Black Version 2 or Pokémon White Version 2 (through selecting the ‘Unova Link’ option in the game’s menu), providing an enviable opportunity of filling your Pokédex mode quickly or restocking your resources.

Ensuring that no dramatic advantage is gained within a short period of time, Dream Clouds only appear every five minutes once cleared. This means that players can’t devote their day to accruing numerous rare Pokémon and items, yet rewards those with the patience to return on a daily basis.

You can, however, spent 5 Play Coins to immediately maximise the number of Dream Clouds available, although such option may only be used three times per day.

Any normal Dream Orbs that you gather can also be used within the Development Zone to upgrade the virtual equipment at your disposal. Improving the Poké Radar, for instance, allows you to increase the light beam’s power, the amount of time granted to catch Pokémon, and the maximum amount of Dream Clouds that can be found. Whereas abilities such as Vortex Charge, Dragnet Charge and Energy Charge further ease the difficulty in catching rare Pokémon.

For £2.69, it’s hard to deny the enduring benefits of putting Pokémon Dream Radar regularly through its paces, and Pokéfans both new and old will enjoy briefly steering away from the normal XP grind. However, the limitations in content prove an issue, meaning that once again only keen Pokémon trainers need apply.
