The Pokémon Company International has confirmed that Pokémon Champions will be used for the Video Game Championships (VGC) at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco.

When the game launches next year, you can compete in Ranked Battles where Pokémon will be able to undergo Mega Evolution and become Mega-Evolved Pokémon – such as the newly discovered Mega Dragonite introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

“Get ready to experience everything you love about Pokémon battles all in one place – in Pokémon Champions,” the company previously wrote about the game.

“This new, battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike.

“It’s not just familiar mechanics – you’ll be able to bring in classic Pokémon from Pokémon HOME, too! Look forward to cross-platform battles alongside your favorite Pokémon on Nintendo Switch and mobile, with a variety of different modes available for your desired experience.”

Pokémon Champions is a free-to-start game in development for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices to release worldwide in 2026.

More details have been promised to be shared in the future about “a paid digital version of Pokémon Champions on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems.”
