Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have confirmed that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will have a sizeable day one update on Nintendo Switch.
We have known that this would a possibility for some months, but now, thanks to each game’s listing on the Japanese Nintendo eShop, we can expect that these updates will require “approximately 8GB.” That means that we can assume that they will deliver more significant changes to improve your upcoming adventure across the Sinnoh region.
“In order to play some content, it may be necessary to install the update data delivered on or after the game release date,” a message on the official Pokémon website had previously shared. Further to this, Nintendo had clarified: “A software update is required to use certain features while playing with others, such as communication, trading and battles.”
With leaks having started to surface online from what seem to be early retail copies that are in the wild, this could also explain much of the pre-launch criticism and disappointment that feverish fans have been directing towards the current state of the games on social media.
The remakes have been developed by ILCA – with ILCA’s Yuichi Ueda and Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda directing the project – promising fans the chance “to experience the original story and game features from Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl in a fresh way.”
Trainers will choose either Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup to be their first partner Pokémon before setting off on their journey. Along the way, they will be able to encounter the Legendary Pokémon Dialga in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and the Legendary Pokémon Palkia in Pokémon Shining Pearl.
The original games have been faithfully reproduced and colourfully revitalised for Nintendo Switch. The sense of the scale of the towns and routes has been “carefully preserved,” and fans who played the original games will recognize many familiar places. These games are updated with the “easy-to-understand, player-friendly conveniences” introduced in recent Pokémon core series video games, in addition to up-close-and-personal Pokémon battle scenes.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 19th November 2021.
