Pokémon Black/ White versions achieve Japanese sales of over 5 million units

Famitsu are reporting that Pokémon Black & White has become the fastest selling Nintendo DS title across Japan, having sold in excess of 5 million copies since it launched on September 18th 2010.

Having sold an impressive quantity of 2.63 million copies solely across its opening weekend, as of January 9th 2011 the games have achieved lifetime sales of 5,036,724 copies.

Such figures make the latest entry within the Pokémon franchise Japan’s biggest selling game within 2010, having been able to shift an additional 1.5 million more copies than its nearest competitor, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Pokémon Black and White Versions are due to release across Europe and North America on March 4th and March 6th respectively.
