Nintendo of America have announced that Pokémon Black and White have become the fastest selling games within the series, having achieved sales of over 1 million copies on launch day.

Having gone on sale on Monday, fans across the country rushed to secure their copies, with Nintendo able to achieve an overall figure of 1.08 million sales for the single day.

Such an impressive feat allows the company to beat their previous one-day sales record for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl of just over 780,000 copies sold at launch in April 2007.

“Longtime Pokémon fans are attracted to the new Pokémon, new battle systems and a new region to explore, while newcomers enjoy the ability to jump in and have fun right away,” commented Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo’s communications chief.

Prior to this, Pokémon Black and White became Nintendo’s best selling Nintendo DS game in the UK, and sales hitting over 4 million copies in Japan.
