PlatinumGames Want NieR Automata On Nintendo Switch

PlatinumGames have expressed an interest in porting NieR Automata to Nintendo Switch, but, in a somewhat comedic exchange, joked that players on the portable home console will have to wait two years before they manage to release it.

In a pre-recorded message shown on Square Enix Presents E3 2018, NieR Automata director Yoko Taro derailed his conversation with producer Yosuke Saito and designer Takahisa Taura about the upcoming Xbox One port to ask when they would release the critically acclaimed action role-playing game on Nintendo Switch.

That exchange, which you can see in the video below, happened as follows:

Yoko Taro: Well, um, when are we getting the Switch version, Saito-san?

Everyone: [Laughter]

Yosuke Saito: Well it’s not all on me to decide because PlatinumGames do take painstaking time to develop for each console.

Takahisa Taura: Well, I don’t think it’s a good idea to ask me about something as big as this. [laughs]

Yoko Taro: I want a Switch version Taura-san! Give it to me!

Takahisa Taura: Well, I’d like to have one too if it’s about what we want.

Yosuke Saito: Well, Taura-kun’s Twitter account is shown on the screen here and if everyone asks him for it, then there may be a possibility that it would become a reality. But even if it does, it might be about two years from now again. See we keep our jobs alive by releasing a little by little.

Takahisa Taura: Yes, we try to stretch it out as much as possible.

Yoko Taro: And this Twitter account is for asking for new girlfriends too right?

Takahisa Taura: Well, yes, but please contact Saito-san about Switch and not me.

NieR: Automata is now available on PlayStation 4 and PC, and will release digitally for Xbox One as the NieR: Automata Become as Gods Edition worldwide on June 26th.

  1. Well, what a precise timing. I was just looking whether anything about Nier:Automata on the Switch has been announced. And honestly, As long as it is coming *someday*, I will be more than happy to wait. Confirmation (or even rumours) honestly is enough to pay a second time for the game.
