Nintendo has revealed that Pikmin 4 will release on Nintendo Switch next year, offering the first sneak peek in this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

“Nintendo Switch has made controlling the game simpler, meaning you can further concentrate on the core essence of Pikmin gameplay,” explains Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. “We call it ‘Dondori’ in Japanese, or strategically planning, deploying and commanding the Pikmin. I hope you are all looking forward to Pikmin 4.”

It was back in July 2015 that we had first heard about the game’s existence when Miyamoto shared: “It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”

That was reconfirmed by Nintendo, who had clarified: “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.” Later at E3 2017, Miyamoto confirmed that development was “progressing,” but we had heard nothing since then.

In awaiting any news, we previously wrote about our hopes and what we want to see from the fourth entry in the series.

Pikmin 4 will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2023.
