Pikmin 3 provides Wii U sales surge in Japan

Pikmin 3 scurrying on the scene has seen Nintendo begin their fairly lengthy process of seeking to reverse Wii U’s fortunes in Japan, for now at least.

The latest sales data from Media Create signals that Pikmin 3 was able to top the software chart with 92,720 units sold across Japan, whereas Nintendo also saw 22,199 Wii U hardware units shifted amounting to the highest home console sales across the country that week.

It signals hope for Nintendo’s first-party recovery plan for the ailing console, such sales only being representative of two days at retail rather than the usual four due to the game’s release date.
