Biff, Chip and Kipper are to join the characters currently populating the Nintendo eShop, with Oxford University Press set to bring their early learning books to Nintendo 3DS.

That will arrive in the form of Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip & Kipper, a three-volume interactive series that take scenes and illustrations from the books, using the same synthetic phonics method to introduces individual letter sounds to children before blending them together to read a word.

The 3DS itself will be put to use, with the touch-screen being used for navigation during exercises, accompanying fully-spoken instructions, and microphone playback that will allow children to record their voice to then play it back to check their pronunciation. Children will be rewarded with completion stamps, with the quantity of content apparently being equivalent to more than 30 Oxford Reading Tree textbooks.

Parents are encouraged to get involved too, through sing-along songs, read aloud story lyrics, and can check how their children are doing with each set of exercises, while a Parents Guide can let them learn more about the exercises and their teaching methods.

Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip & Kipper’s three volumes will release exclusively on Nintendo 3DS from 12th September 2014.
