Application Systems and Studio Seufz have announced that The Longing is out now on Nintendo Switch, news that was shared in this week’s Indie World showcase.

This game is pitched as “a meditation on self-isolation and loneliness,” and sees you play as a lonely Shade who is the last servant of a king who had once ruled an underground kingdom.

After the king’s powers fade, he falls asleep for 400 days to regain his might. You must stay in the earthen palace until he awakens.

Once you start the game, and even when you stop playing and exit the game, the 400 days count down. You can even leave the game alone for 400 days and come back to see how it ends.

If you choose to play the game, you will have the chance to explore the caves and collect items for your underground living room. When you haven’t sent the Shade on a stroll, it will be able to read classic literature such as Moby Dick to keep its mind occupied and pass the time while you can also ignore the king’s commands and venture into the outer regions of the cave.

The Longing is now available on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
