Parents Use Super Mario Maker 2 To Reveal Their Baby’s Gender

Super Mario Maker 2 Baby Gender Reveal

We always knew that Super Mario Maker 2 would end up being used for more than simply creating imaginative and punishing courses, and that’s certainly the case.

Parents Jonathan and Lissette Steele are expecting their second baby and wanted to reveal their gender to the family in “a fun way.”

The result is the Baby Steele Gender Reveal course (Course ID: 80H-9P7-QFG), which, after sharing the due date, a baby onesie, and a heart, goes on to reveal their second baby’s gender – after s playful tease.

“We knew we wanted to do something fun and unique, but were having a hard time coming up with anything we really loved. Then I remembered that I was waiting eagerly for the release of Super Mario Maker 2,” Jonathan explained to Nintendo Life.

“I asked Lissette if she thought it would be cool to use that game somehow for the reveal. She said, ‘Yeah, go for it!’ Super Mario Bros. is the franchise that got me into gaming. My siblings and I grew up playing the NES together, so I knew it would mean a lot to my family.”

In talking about how he came up with ideas on how to create the course, Jonathan continues: “When I started designing the level, I knew I wanted to begin with the most familiar thing possible. Most of my family aren’t avid gamers, but I knew they’d remember World 1-1.

“So I started the level that way, building an exact replica of the famous level, including the first underground area. Then I started slowly changing the level and adding the personal touches.

“This was the first level I ever made in Super Mario Maker 2, and I’ve made a few more since then. I know I’ll be building and playing levels in this game for a long time. And hopefully one day I can hand the controller to my second-born son, and let him play this level himself!

In Super Mario Maker 2, you once again have the chance to play, create and share your own courses, with access to even more tools, items, and features than in the original Super Mario Maker – which went on to sell more than four million copies worldwide on Wii U.

The game’s creation tools will let you surprise and frustrate other players around the world with your mischievous and devious designs, using visual styles from games such as Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Super Mario 3D World.

Super Mario Maker 2 is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
