Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is well-known for regularly directing criticism at Nintendo, so it makes a change to hear him share some positive thoughts about the company’s decisions.

That came off the back of their presence at The Game Awards 2014, where they dominated social media conversation over the weekend by sharing development progress on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U. Mario Maker and Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. were also shown, while Koji Kondo performed a Super Mario Bros. medley.

“Microsoft made a mistake skipping The Game Awards altogether,” Pachter commented to VentureBeat. “The awards show was an opportunity to steal a little thunder from PSX, and Nintendo and Reggie seized the opportunity.

“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to compliment Reggie, as I haven’t had many chances to say what a good job he has done in an otherwise dismal year. Nintendo really stood out with that Zelda announcement.”
