Final Fantasy Explorers’ release date in Japan has more significance than you would expect at first glance, marking 27 years since the first Final Fantasy was launched.

To mark such occasion, Square Enix have revealed that the first run of Final Fantasy Explorers copies will include a download code for the remastered version of Final Fantasy, complete with stereoscopic 3D.

Such copies will also boast a special quest in which you can collect Final Fantasy III’s Onion Knight equipment, requiring you to acquire materials to make the sword and helmet, armour and leg pieces.

For those that aren’t planning to buy Final Fantasy Explorers, Final Fantasy will later become available to buy through the Nintendo eShop in January 2015.

Final Fantasy Explorers will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS in Japan on December 18th.
