Ono: Nintendo Vs. Capcom unlikely to happen

Yoshinori Ono, producer for Capcom’s acclaimed Street Fighter series, has drawn a line under rumours circulating that a Nintendo Vs. Capcom game was on the cards, also admitting that he had to apologise to Nintendo CEO and President Satoru Iwata for being the cause of such speculation.

Ono had previously stated that he would be interested in such a project during a Developer session at the Nintendo 3DS Preview Event in Amsterdam, yet believes that such a light-hearted comment was blown out of proportion by the media.

“I mentioned it was an interesting idea that somehow transmogrified on the Internet into me saying I was going to do it!” he explained to IGN. “I have no plans to do it.”

Whilst Ono had wanted to pitch the conceptual idea to Nintendo, he now thinks that such a crossover is unlikely to occur.

“I certainly don’t think anything is impossible, though not terribly likely is probably a way to phrase it,” he said. “I had to go to Nintendo President Iwata-san and actually apologize that I let things get out of hand.”
