One Piece Unlimited World Red will set sail for Wii U and 3DS later this year, Namco Bandai have today announced.

Developed by Ganbarion, the studio behind Wii’s sombre Pandora’s Tower, this action-adventure RPG sees players playing as the Straw Hat crew members as they battle their way through a brand new scenario. They’ll face Crocodile, Rob Luccie and Caesar Clown, among others, in boss battles, mastering their skills to execute flashy combos, and to dodge or interact with enemies counterattacks.

The Wii U version will sport spit-screen multiplayer for up to two players, whereas the 3DS will allow four players to get involved over local multiplayer. You can either join forces to beat down strong opponents, or enjoy mini-games such as fishing or bug-catching.

“As one of the most successful manga we ever witnessed, One Piece is a phenomenon that deserves AAA adaptations”, comments Namco Bandai Games Europe’s senior vice president of IP strategy, Hiroaki Ochiai.

“We decided to team-up with Ganbarion to create a new opus for the ‘Unlimited’ series. Thanks to their expertise, we are sure to have an amazing game where all the details from the One Piece universe will be perfectly pictured. On top of that, we are really proud and happy to have a never-before-seen scenario for this game!”

One Piece Unlimited World Red will release for Wii U and 3DS in 2014.
