Square Enix and Acquire have announced Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, a free-to-play role-playing game for iOS and Android devices.
In an interview with Famitsu, producers Tomoya Asano and Yoshiki Yokoyama explained that the game acts as a prequel to Octopath Traveler. It will take place in Orsterra before the events of the Nintendo Switch exclusive, and will introduce eight new characters that each come from different regions.
Your adventure is “on rails,” so, when exploring, you must swipe in the direction that you want to move, and, as with the original game, you can experience the eight stories in any order.
There are three primary story routes – Wealth, Power, and Fame – and, once again created with the HD-2D engine, you can battle enemies and bosses with eight characters at once. It was clarified that this is a single-player experience, so don’t expect any multiplayer elements.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will release for iOS and Android devices across Japan in 2019.
