Square Enix has shared a new trailer for Octopath Traveler 0 to coincide with Tokyo Game Show 2025, the prequel to the original Octopath Traveler coming to both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
You will have the chance to start from zero in a personal quest of restoration and retribution, journeying to stop powerful villains using fast-paced, turn-based combat.
For the first time in the series, play through the eyes of your own custom protagonist and rebuild your hometown. You can expect more than 30 recruitable party members, an engaging story, all-new features and returning core elements like the iconic HD-2D graphics, and the Break and Boost battle system.
“The theme of this game is, ‘Embark on an adventure of your own creation.’ You create your own character from scratch in the character creator, and your journey is about rebuilding your destroyed hometown from nothing,” Octopath Traveler 0 producer Hirohito Suzuki previously explained.
“The name Octopath Traveler 0 conveys the idea that you’re undertaking a journey of your own making. Whether you’ve played the first game in the series, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, or even neither, we’ve packed this game with original experiences that can be enjoyed by anyone! I look forward to players experiencing this new story for themselves.”
Octopath Traveler 0 will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch worldwide on 4 December 2025.
