Spike Chunsoft has shared more about the new Escape sections in No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files.

Now coming to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, these have been added alongside the traditional Investigation and Somnium sections. Each section features a different playable character, and the story progresses as players switch between the three gameplay sections:

  • Investigation: In Investigations, take control of the protagonist, Kaname Date, as he follows the trail of the missing Iris. The story unfolds as you visit various real-world locations, investigate crime scenes, and question key witnesses. Date also utilises the visual enhancement functions of his AI-equipped prosthetic left eye, “AI-Ball,” to uncover vital clues that could help solve the case.
  • Somnium: Somnium is one of the defining features of the series. In this segment, take control of Aiba—in female humanoid form—rather than Kaname Date. Using a device called the “Psync” machine, enter a witness’s dream world to uncover hidden memories and buried truths, all within a strict six-minute time limit. The dream world is shaped by the subject’s personality and memories, meaning the laws of reality no longer apply. Instead, each Somnium follows its own unique set of rules. Barriers known as “mental locks” block access to deeper memories, and players must take different actions to unlock them.
  • Escape: In Escape, take control of Iris, who has been trapped in a locked room. Your goal is to solve the puzzles scattered throughout the room and find a way out. During this section, you’ll be in communication with Kaname Date and Aiba, receiving hints through conversations with them. You’ll need to carefully examine objects and items placed around the room to uncover the clues needed to escape. Some of the things you collect may not be useful on their own, but by combining them with other items, you can unlock their true potential.

Set a day after The New Cyclops Serial Killings were resolved, internet idol Iris Sagan (known as “A-set”) is abducted by a UFO and forced to participate in a perilous escape game called The Third Eye Game. In another part of the city, a mysterious device that resembles a coffin is discovered with a note attached that reads “Psync me.”

It is down to special agent Kaname Date to investigate, teaming up with the AI-Ball, Aiba, in his efforts to rescue Iris.

With Kazuya Yamada writing the scenario with Kotaro Uchikoshi overseeing as the series director, Yusuke Kozaki returns as character designer and Keisuke Ito continues as the music composer.

As with previous games, in the Investigation sections, you must examine crime scenes and listen to testimonies, whereas the Somnium segments will let you enter the dream worlds of suspects and key witnesses. The new Escape sections will challenge you to solve puzzles to break out of locked rooms. Moving between these three gameplay elements will reward you with the clues needed to solve the case.

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 25 July 2025.
