Nintendo’s Third-Quarter Financial Results See Profit Fall

Nintendo has announced the company’s third-quarter financial results, reporting that net profit fell by 36 percent compared to the same period last year.

Their net profit between October – December 2015 sat at 29.1 billion yen (£167 million), which tumbled from 45.2 billion (£260 million) the year before.

Company revenue was 221.5 billion yen and operating profit at 33.5 billion yen, which was in line with analyst expectation – predictions that forecasted 252.6 billion yen in revenue and 33.2 billion operating profit.

That fall is largely being attributed to a lack of key releases to close out the year, which notably saw a mainline Pokémon title absent. Whereas the year before, Nintendo had Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire which have sold 11.46 million copies worldwide as of 31st December 2015.

Nintendo has maintained their guidance for the remainder of the fiscal year at 570 billion yen in revenue, 50 billion in operating profit and making a 35 billion net profit.

This year we will learn about Nintendo NX, and the company will make their first stride into the smart device market with Miitomo.
