Nintendo: Wii U Basic Set to remain at retail

It emerged yesterday that retailers were beginning to recall “all new/unopened Wii U Basic,” beginning speculation that Nintendo were to discontinue the bundle.

Nintendo of America, as with Nintendo UK earlier, have today dismissed such claims, indicating that it is to “simply rebalance the stock” at their retail partners, with consumers able to find either if desired.

“There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware,” Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of corporate communications, to Polygon. “To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market. Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available.”
