Nintendo UK EGX 2017 Plans Include Four Nintendo Switch Tournaments


Nintendo UK has announced that they will host four tournaments at EGX 2017, seeing attendees compete in Nintendo Switch exclusives Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Pokkén Tournament DX.

It will also be the first hands-on opportunity to play Nintendo Switch games in the UK, such as Fire Emblem Warriors. And, other Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS games will be playable on the show floor, including Super Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Metroid: Samus Returns, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions and Monster Hunter Stories.

Then, there will be fun, casual multiplayer activities on the Nintendo stage with games like 1-2-Switch, Flip Wars, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Sonic Mania and more. There will also be a special Nindies area at the show, with more news promised shortly.

The four competitive tournaments that Nintendo UK will run, are:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe EGX Championship

Think you can drift with the best? Competitors will take place in 8-player, 150cc Grand Prix’s, with the top racers advancing in a single elimination bracket that will run throughout the day until we crown the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe EGX 2017 Champion! Everyone is eligible to enter, but please bring your own Nintendo Switch to guarantee access to your favourite kart setup. Spaces limited.

The ARMS EGX 2017 Grand Prix

It’s time to take up ARMS! Competitors will clash in 1vs1 fights and are able to use any character and ARMS combination they wish. Everyone is eligible to enter, but please bring your own Nintendo Switch to guarantee access to your favourite ARMS. Motion control and button control schemes are both supported. Spaces limited.

The Splatoon 2 UK Championship Grand Final

Whether you’re a full squad or a squid for hire, EGX will offer a last chance qualifier for the Splatoon 2 UK Championship ahead of the grand final on Saturday afternoon! This will be a single elimination tournament with a different game mode in play for each round, so get practising! Everyone is eligible to enter, but please bring your own Nintendo Switch or a compatible amiibo with your preset loadout registered to it to guarantee access to your favourite weapons and gear. Spaces extremely limited. The final stages of the competition will be livestreamed on the Nintendo UK Twitch channel.

The Pokkén Tournament DX EGX 2017 Tournament

With five new Battle Pokémon, Pokkén Tournament DX promises fresh competition from the word ‘fight’! Competitors will face off in 1vs1 battles on random stages. Everyone is eligible to enter. Spaces limited.

EGX 2017 will be held from Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th September at The NEC, Birmingham.
