Nintendo Switch Was The Best-Selling Console In December 2017

Nintendo of America has shared that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in December, shifting more units than any other video game system across the United States according to the NPD Group.

That saw 1.5 million portable home consoles sold in the five-week period, with more than 4.8 million having now been sold to make it the fastest-selling home console in the country’s history.

The Nintendo 3DS family of systems was also able to demonstrate its staying power, with more than 750,000 consoles having been sold to record the handheld’s best sales month since December 2014 – which Nintendo notes was a 27 percent increase compared to the prior year.

That means that more than 21 million handhelds in the Nintendo 3DS of systems have now been sold in the United States.

There were also around 350,000 Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition systems sold in December, with Nintendo accounting for more than half of all hardware sales in the month.

Nintendo added that four Nintendo Switch games were in the December sales chart, with Super Mario Odyssey at No. 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at No. 4, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at No. 9 and Splatoon 2 at No. 16. And then, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon for Nintendo 3DS crossed the line at No. 13 and No. 14, respectively.
