Nintendo has announced that more than 10 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold worldwide.

The plucky portable home console had sold 2.74 million units worldwide in March alone, to become the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history.

While the console’s production has been hampered by component shortages, it soon hit 4.7 million units worldwide and then, most recently, struck 7.63 million units worldwide. That means that 2.37 million consoles have been sold since 30th September 2017, with the holidays to continue to drive it forever upwards.

With reports emerging that Nintendo may now be producing two million Nintendo Switch units per month, it is expected that the console will outsell Wii U lifetime hardware sales before April 2018 – within the first year of the console’s lifecycle.

“As you can see in people’s living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go,” shared Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “The response from fans has been great, and we’re doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”

“We are thrilled that fans all across Europe and around the world are enjoying the gameplay experiences that only Nintendo Switch can offer, whether it be the newest adventures with Super Mario and Link, or unique games such as 1-2-Switch, where players look at each other and not the screen,” enthused Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata.

Nintendo Switch now has five games that have crossed the million-seller milestone, namely The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (4.7 million copies), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4.42 million copies), Splatoon 2 (3.61 million copies), 1-2-Switch (1.37 million copies), and ARMS (1.35 million copies).
