Nintendo has revealed that Nintendo Switch Online has more than 8 million subscribers, the paid membership service for the portable home console that was launched last September.

That number includes accounts in Family Memberships, which means that, given that more than 32.27 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold worldwide, we can calculate that approximately 25 percent of owners have subscribed to the service.

“In last September, we launched Nintendo Switch Online, a paid service that expands the online functionality of Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa explained at this week’s financial results briefing.

“Nintendo Switch Online has had a good start, with the number of subscribers surpassing 8 million accounts not including free trials. In keeping with our goal of providing Nintendo Switch owners with ‘More Games. More Features. More Fun,’ we are working on continuing to expand the service offerings.”

Nintendo has previously spoken about that “good start” but recognized the need to boost the service’s appeal. It appears that we will soon learn about one expansion, after 22 SNES games were discovered in the Nintendo Switch Online app.
