The Nintendo Switch Online app has received a new software update to version 1.1.0, with Nintendo looking to help enhance your online gameplay experience on the portable home console.

The app, which can be used for free until the Nintendo Switch Online membership service launches in 2018, was soon met with widespread criticism when it was released back in July, leading to it largely being ignored by the console’s audience.

Nintendo has addressed two immediate concerns, in now allowing users to continue using voice chat when other apps are opened or when their smartphone is in sleep mode. But, there still isn’t the freedom to actually chat with friends whenever you wish, instead being isolated to the teams that you are on in Splatoon 2.

Improvements Made In Nintendo Switch Online App Update Version 1.1.0

  • Voice chat will now continue when other apps are opened. (*1)
  • Voice chat will now continue during sleep mode. (*2)
  • Improved support for Bluetooth devices. (For Android devices only.)

(*1) This excludes apps with audio output or apps that use the microphone.

(*2) If the power-saving feature is activated on devices using Android 6.0 or later, voice chat may be interrupted after the device has entered sleep mode. To use voice chat during sleep mode, go to Other Settings > Power Saving Settings in the app and deactivate battery optimization on the Android device.
