Nintendo Switch Now Expected To Outsell Wii U In A Year

Nintendo has today reported that Nintendo Switch has sold 7.63 million units worldwide, which is something that they have achieved in the space of six months.

With the holiday season approaching and the portable home console’s appeal bolstered with Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo has raised the hardware sales that they had forecast to anticipate 14 million unit sales worldwide by 31st March 2018.

That will see it outperform the ill-fated Wii U within the space of a single year, with the console having sold 13.56 million units worldwide since launching in November 2012.

It, perhaps, won’t come as a surprise. Not only has Nintendo Switch been strongly positioned in the market with a compelling concept, it has had a rapid succession of major releases – both at retail and on the Nintendo eShop – to keep players actively engaged with the platform.

Several of those have become million-sellers for Nintendo, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (4.7 million copies), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4.42 million copies), Splatoon 2 (3.61 million copies), 1-2-Switch (1.37 million copies), and ARMS (1.35 million copies).
