Nintendo of America has announced that the Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling home video game system of all time in the United States, having sold more than 4.8 million consoles across the country in 10 months.

That has seen it surpass the Wii, which had been the previous record holder having sold 4 million consoles in the same timeframe.

In the United States, more than 60 percent of Nintendo Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey, over 55 percent own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 50 percent have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 20 percent own Splatoon 2.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” enthused Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president and COO.

“Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

The company adds that more than 300 games from third-party developers are already available for Nintendo Switch, with major publishers such as EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, SEGA, Take-Two, and Bethesda to continue their support in 2018.
