Nintendo Switch Can Now Overclock CPU To Speed Up Load Times

Surprised Super Mario Odyssey Key Art

Homebrew users have discovered that, since the recent Nintendo Switch system update, Nintendo has started to overclock the portable home console’s CPU to speed up load times.

This change has been spotted in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, since the Nintendo Switch exclusives received software updates to support Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit.

Whenever either game is on a loading screen, it has been reported that the CPU increases to 1.7GHz before returning to 1GHz once the process has been completed. The clear benefit is that this new process has reduced loading times, which, thanks to GameXplain, we can see in action.

That has seen the loading times lowered by as much as 12 seconds, even when playing from a physical game card. If this method is something made available to other developers, could soon see other games improved in future software updates.
