First, it was Pokémon GO that had been targeted earlier in the year, and now a Nintendo Switch beta program has emerged online.
With excitement swirling around the home gaming system, Nintendo has already confirmed that we won’t learn more until January’s Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017.
That doesn’t mean that fans are any less eager to learn more about the console, and, seizing their moment of opportunity, has seen scammers try to lure the unwary with early beta access. These involve the web addresses betanintendo.us and beta.nintendo-eu.com, where visitors are asked to enter their email address in order to receive an invitation code.
Those that dare to do so will soon be sent an email that reads:
“PREPARE FOR REVOLUTION
“Congratulation! You are eligible to join the Nintendo Switch™ Beta Program! You are chosen, which means you can get into the Nintendo Switch Beta!
“You will receive the Nintendo Switch Beta Hardware which includes 1 System, 1 Docking Station, 2 Switch Controller (Left and Right) HDMI cable, 1 power adaptor, as well as instruction booklet.
“Below, you will find a code to redeem. Please note: This code is specifically for your account, so do not share this with anyone.”
The domain was registered through namecheap.com on October 23rd, with the registrar listed as United States resident Fernando Sanchez. It’s a clear fake, but it is always worth flagging for those that are less guarded with their personal details online.
