Nintendo Switch 2 To Have 8-Inch LCD Screen

It has been reported that the Nintendo Switch successor will have an 8-inch LCD screen, and will launch later this year.

The report from Bloomberg is attributed to Omdia research manager Hiroshi Hayase who, with more than 35 years of experience in the LCD industry, is seen as an expert in the small-medium display market.

For comparison, the standard Nintendo Switch has a 6.2-inch capacitive touch screen, the Nintendo Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch capacitive touch screen and the Nintendo Switch OLED boasts a “vibrant 7-inch OLED screen with a slimmer bezel.”

Indications that Nintendo Switch 2 will have an LCD screen have been met with disappointment among fans, even if it could help to keep the console’s costs down – and more affordable for consumers – at launch.

However, the company will have noted the Nintendo Switch OLED model’s popularity, and it seems likely that, as with the original portable home console, it will be offered as a more premium upgrade for those who desire it in the future.

It was reported in August 2023 that development kits for the Nintendo Switch successor were with third-party publishers. The report also claimed that, as with Nintendo Switch, the next-gen console can be used in portable mode and will have a cartridge slot.

When we will learn more about the Nintendo Switch successor is unclear. It is widely expected that a Nintendo Direct will be broadcast this month, with rumblings that the console is to be revealed soon after.
